Trust us, you likely already have everything they recommend to treat your strands to a little R&R. Peep some of the favorite remedies below!

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has been used for centuries in India and there is actually a lot of recent science to support its use. It is the only oil that has been scientifically shown to penetrate the hair shaft and strengthen it, leading to less hair breakage and flyaways. Its high affinity for hair proteins, which lend hair its strength, means reduced protein loss when used as a pre- and post-wash product. There is a specific type of coconut oil that is much prefer by some dermatologist above all the rest which is the fractionated coconut oil, as it has a much milder fragrance than regular coconut oil. You may use it by massaging it into the scalp and ends using your fingertips, leaving it on for approximately one hour, then shampooing off and conditioning like normal. If done weekly, it can not only help strengthen the hair and lead to healthier locks, it can help reduce irritation, itching, and dryness.

Avocado and Honey Hair Mask

If you are a lover of hair masks, this specifically an avocado and honey one has been highly recommended by dermatologists. You should take one medium avocado and mix it with 2 tablespoons honey and apply the mix to dry hair for 15 to 20 minutes. The unsaturated oils in the avocado are extremely hydrating and the honey acts as a humectant to draw the moisture in and keep it there.

Tea Tree Oil

For those with dandruff, dermatologists advised to add a few drops of tea tree oil to your go-to shampoo. Tea tree oil has been shown to have antifungal properties that will decrease the yeast in your scalp, which causes dandruff.

Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse

Another at-home remedy suggested is an apple cider vinegar rinse. For some extra shine, you can combine 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar with 1 cup warm water. After you shampoo and conditioner, tip your head back and pour the mixture over your scalp and down the hair shafts. Massage for a few minutes and rinse. The apple cider vinegar will kill bacteria, breakdown product buildup, and get your hair shinier than ever. Try doing it only once or twice per week.

Aloe and Rosemary Essential Oil

Please also note that a mix of aloe and rosemary essential oil can really help with hair growth. Always keep an aloe plant in my garden and use it fresh. Pulverize the 4 tablespoons of pulp of the fresh aloe plant. Then, add a drop of rosemary essential oil and 1 teaspoon of castor oil. Apply the mix to your scalp and hair 30 minutes before washing/showering. Do this twice a week. Rosemary is a herb that is well known to stimulate hair growth. Aloe has a similar pH to your hair’s pPH and nourishing minerals, like copper and zinc, which are essential for hair growth.

Scalp Massages

One popular final at-home remedy that literally anyone can do is giving your scalp a nice massage. You can also get into the habit of giving your scalp a quick massage every day, helping to encourage blood flow. Blood brings in the nutrients and oxygen to your hair cells.
