“I haven’t cut my hair in so long and it STILL hasn’t grown!”
Do you find this sound familiar? It has been six months but there is no development on the hair growth or length? Let us tell you a little secret: your hair maybe breaking off before you can even notice the new growth.
Fortunately, there is a solution and the mystery of how trimming those dead and split ends can help in boosting noticeable hair growth. For long hair, follow the steps below.
Is it really true?
Our clients frequently ask us the same question: “If hair grows from my scalp, how can I make it grow by cutting it?” Many clients are unaware that the cause of unnoticeable hair growth is due to hair damage is at the hair ends. When you’re trying to grow your hair, it is important to take care of what you can. Hair coloring, heat styling, and mistreatment of wet hair are all factors that can lead to split ends.
Split, Break, and Repeat
Split ends can be caused by anything that you have done to your hair. Split ends don’t simply collect on the wall of the shower. Your hair will actually form another split end from the one that was broken, and this cycle continues down your hair strands. If you cut your hair, it will enable it to have a healthy growth. You can grow your hair from the roots, so you can keep your hair long and avoid splitting. Split ends that are left on the strand will cause hair to continue to split. You’ll never be able to see the full length.
What to Ask
It’s not “just a TRIM!” Don’t be too vague and be more clear to your hairstylist. A typical trim for clients takes off 1/4 inch. It is possible for stylists to give you a different idea about what a trim would look be like for your hair. It is important to measure your hair and ask them to remove any split ends or flyaways from the top surface of the hair. This will prevent interior split ends from getting deeper into the hair. A good trim should be done every 10-12 weeks. This gives hair enough time to grow and allows for healthy trimming to prevent any breakage.
2. The effectiveness will eventually stop working if you use the same shampoo every time.
To keep your hair clean, you don’t have to do shampoo rotation. It’s a good idea to change to a more moisturize shampoo for your hair if you have recently begun to color your hair or used hot tools. You can keep using your current favorite shampoo as long as it’s your favorite.
3. A cold-water rinse makes your hair shinier.
This gospel is loved by hairstylists. Their reasoning: Ice cold water will cause your hair cuticle to become close resulting it to be flat and light-reflective. It won’t make it look ruffled or dull. Hair doesn’t contain living cells and won’t react to hot or cold water. To smoothen the cuticle, use conditioners and styling products containing silicones and oils. Avoid hair damage from heat tools, straightening, and frequent dyeing.
4. Brush 100 times a day for healthy hair.
You may have heard that a thorough brushing can distribute natural oils from your scalp and add shine to your hair. It can stimulate blood flow and increase hair growth. But both are false. Brushing of hair will result in friction and causing cuticle breakage and damage. It will also cause hair to become frizzy and lusterless. Instead minimize brushing of hair and only for detangle or styling. Use the perfect tool which is a comb with a wide tooth or a paddle brush that has ball-tipped bristles. Boar-bristle brushes should be avoided. Natural bristles don’t have uniformity so they can cause hair and scalp damage.
5. Your scalp will produce less oil if you shampoo less often.
No matter how often you shampoo your scalp, it still produces the same amount oil. Your sebaceous glands will not be affected by a reduction in shampooing; their oil production is determined by genetics and hormones. It can cause oil and dirt to build up on your hair and hair follicles. This could lead to inflammation and irritation which might hinder hair growth. Experts agree that how often you wash your hair is up to you. You can use your judgement. Use a moisturizing shampoo to your hair as often as you feel it is necessary, daily or weekly.
6. Unfortunately, this one is true. Men prefer longer hair.
Studies show that men are more attracted to women with long hair. One study showed that women’s images could be digitally altered to have shorter, longer, or medium-length hair. The same faces were rated as more attractive by men if they had longer hair. Another study found that long hair and medium-length hair had an impact on male raters’ perceptions of the health of female subjects.
